A Crime of Numbers From Identity Theft

Bob is strolling along a crowded sidewalk on a sunny September day, someone behind him calls out, Hey, Chuck! How’s it going, man? Bob hears it loud and clear, but of course he pays it no attention. Instead, he ignores the guy because his name isn’t Chuck.

Would Bob have turned around if the guy yelled, Hey, Bob? Of course he would have, as will any Bob within hearing range. What if the guy behind him had yelled out a set of numbers? Numbers that just happened to match Bobs VISA card account? Bob wouldn’t pay it any attention at all. If you are like most people, you aren’t even aware that all VISA numbers begin with the numeral 4.

Everything about you is related to a set of numbers.
You have a social security number, a landline and cell phone number. Your mail arrives by street address number and zip code. Your vehicle has a VIN number and a license plate number. Do you have a driver’s license number, a checking account number and savings account number? Your credit cards all have numbers and a CVV number on the back.

What other numbers are linked to your name?
Your life insurance, homeowners insurance, health insurance, car insurance and life insurance policies are all identified by a number. All your bank accounts have a routing number. Your pin number gives you cash or purchases by debit. These are just some commonly used numbers attached to every person alive.

You are not Bob; you are really just a series of number strings. You mother may have named you, but to every entity in control of your world you are a number. You are tracked, located, sorted, appraised and charged according to these numbers. The status of these big numbers hangs on the height of your credit score. Nothing about you means more than that magic set of three numbers.

A person with a desire to live some portion of your life can destroy you in a matter of days with the right number sequence. Where would they get one of these so quickly damning numbers? You better figure out how to secure those three numbers, fast.

Someone could intercept an email in transit and score big stuff, but you would never know. They could come to rush you to Emergency and attack while you are unconscious.
